Free Hearing Services for Pensioners/DVA Cardholders

West Coast Audiology is an accredited provider for The Australian Government Hearing Services Program.  This means that we are able to offer eligible pensioners and DVA cardholders free and subsidised hearing services.  To find out if you are eligible click here.

Free hearing tests & hearing aids

Eligible persons can receive a free comprehensive hearing assessment performed by our university-qualified Audiologists.

If the assessment indicates that a hearing aid would be useful to you, we can fit you with any of the basic digital hearing aids free of charge.  A choice of free hearing aids will be presented to you based on your hearing needs.  Each brand of free-to-client hearing aids have different features and controls.

Top-Up hearing aids

Under the Hearing Services Program the Australian Government pays all of the costs for your hearing assessment, hearing aid fitting and follow-up services and for a variety of free hearing devices.

However, you may decide to be fitted with hearing aids that offer increased features/benefits than those available free of charge.  These more advanced digital hearing aids will be subsidised by The Australian Government.  The government will contribute the amount they would have paid if you had chosen a free device.  This situation is referred to as a ‘top-up' arrangement.

Maintenance agreements

If you are fitted with a hearing aid under the Hearing Services Program we will offer you an annual maintenance agreement.  Under the agreement we will provide maintenance and supply you with batteries for your hearing aids for a year.  The government will pay for most of the cost of this agreement and you will be asked to make a small contribution*.  At the end of the year we will ask if you would like to renew the agreement.

You do not have to enter a maintenance agreement but it is strongly recommended as if you choose not to you will need to pay the full cost of batteries, servicing and any repairs for your hearing aid.  This can easily exceed the contribution cost.

* DVA Gold or White Card (hearing specific) holders are exempt from this co-payment
